Pancreatic Cancer Action Network

The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network is a nationwide network of people dedicated to working together to advance research, support patients and create hope for those affected by pancreatic cancer. Our comprehensive approach to fighting pancreatic cancer is unique. We raise money for direct private funding of research and to advocate for more aggressive federal research funding of medical breakthroughs in prevention, diagnosis and treatment. We provide information and options by providing patients and caregivers the personalized and reliable information they need to make informed decisions. And, we help individuals and communities across the country work together to raise awareness about pancreatic cancer and the funds to find a cure.

Patient and Liaison Services (PALS)

The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network’s Patient and Liaison Services (PALS) program is here to help pancreatic cancer patients, their families and medical teams. PALS Associates are staff members highly trained on the topic of pancreatic cancer. They are able to provide comprehensive, free, call-in services for those in need of information about pancreatic cancer. The information provided by PALS Associates is personal, individualized support that helps pancreatic cancer patients take control of their healthcare. This comprehensive program helps patients and families to understand their diagnosis and test results, learn about available treatment options including clinical trials, locate pancreatic cancer specialists, connect with other survivors and caregivers, find local support groups, and more. Each time you contact the PALS program, you will be connected to the same PALS Associate. You may contact the program as many times as necessary to get all of the information you need throughout your journey.

Two of the special highlights of the Patient and Liaison Services (PALS) program are the Survivor and Caregiver Network and Pancreatic Cancer Clinical Trials Database. If you are looking for support and encouragement, a PALS Associate can match you with a volunteer in the Survivor and Caregiver Network so that you can talk to someone who has been through a similar situation. You can connect by phone or email to share experiences, ask questions and get support.

Additionally, if interested, you can receive accurate and current information about clinical trials applicable to your diagnosis and treatment history. Your PALS Associate can perform a customized search of the PALS Pancreatic Cancer Clinical Trials Database which is verified and updated monthly. This allows you to take your personalized search results to your doctor and discuss all of your treatment options.

The PALS program also offers several educational events throughout the year as part of the Pancreatic Cancer Symposium Series. These educational symposia are offered free-of-charge and the information presented is at a patient-friendly level.

Additionally, the PALS educational library houses 6 booklets and over 40 fact sheets that are available to anyone who contacts the PALS program. All of PALS services and literature are available free-of-charge. Additionally, services and materials are available in English and Spanish.

Community Outreach

The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network started as a small volunteer effort to increase awareness and move people to take action against pancreatic cancer. In fact, this volunteer effort remains our driving force today. We support an army of volunteers across the country that host local events, attend health fairs, distribute patient information to hospitals and doctors’ offices, contact the media, and alert their elected officials about the urgent need for scientific progress in the area of pancreatic cancer research.

Research

The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network funds a robust research program using a peer-reviewed system administered through the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR). Our goal is to fund innovative research, grow the number of researchers directly working on this disease, foster collaboration across disciplines and institutions, and act as a facilitator in the research community to expedite scientific progress that benefits patients.

Government Affairs

The federal government has more dollars for cancer research than any private entity. Therefore, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network augments private research funding with aggressive advocacy for increased federal dollars for pancreatic cancer. With a strong presence in Washington, DC, we actively take our fight to Congress by continually working with elected officials about the need for increased spending for pancreatic cancer research.
